Information Technology (IT) organizations exist to provide reliable, cost-effective application services to their end-users.  Too often, however, tools for managing multi-vendor enterprise systems provide a 
narrow technology view, rather than a broader business-oriented view.  IT personnel work in isolated 
silos of technology, with limited coordination and correlation of activity.  Individual tools for managing systems, networks, and databases provide only a part of the overall systems management picture.  
Enterprise framework initiatives often fail to deliver on time and on budget.

CMC Systems developed the Enterprise Systems Management (ESM) Workshop to address this 
problem.  This workshop is the distillation of nearly twenty years client-server experience, and over 
seven  years’ experience with enterprise systems management frameworks.  The workshop begins with an overview of the mission-critical business applications.  It then addresses each of the systems services 
required to support those business applications.  The current state of each system service, what 
products have been deployed, and intended corporate direction are reviewed.  Recommendations 
are made for improved service levels, staff development, and increased integration among application, 
system, database, and network management tools.  Through a proven, repeatable process, CMC 
Systems helps your IT organization develop a best-practices approach to enterprise systems management.

Process

The ESM workshop program consists of the following steps:

     (1) Phone interviews with key IT executive (CIO, VP of IT) to model business needs, application 
          requirements, and enterprise systems management strategy.  Identify the top two or three 
          mission-critical  business applications to be supported.  These applications might include, but are
